Frequently Asked Questions

How will I know if we are registered and any other pertinent information I need for race morning?

Confirmation letters will be mailed to each runner.  The letters will arrive approximately one week prior to the event.  There will be a set of full instructions including an event map.  The map will explain where everything for race morning is located; bathrooms, medical tent, lost child tent, packet pick-up, start line, finish line, refreshments and information.

What will you do if my child becomes lost or hurt on race morning?

On the back of every bib is the child's name, age, and parent contact number.  Our Race Officials will take them to Lost Children or the Medical tent and hand them off to a Race Official stationed there.  Parents will be paged on the loud speaker and instructed on where to report.

How will I find my child after he/she runs?

Wait at the runner exit at the end of Refreshments. Your child will finish, receive their award, go through Refreshments, and can ONLY exit in ONE place--the runner exit. Be patient—they will emerge.  Or you can pick a place to meet up, but make sure it is outside the race area, such as near the school spirit area or vendor booths.

Can I stay with my child in the running staging area until the race starts?

Yes.

Can I run with my child?

Yes, just make sure your child wants you to join them.  Please note the first heat of each event is parent-free.  If you are in the front of the starting corral, you will need to move towards the back to allow children running alone to move up.  You should run in the next heat.  Everyone will get a chance to go.

My child is only 8, but he wants to run with his older brother who is 10. Can they run in the same heat?

Yes, just let your child know there may be bigger/smaller children in the heat and to mindful of that.

My child did not receive a ribbon or medal when they finished the race. Where can I get one?

You can go to the Information Booth and pick up an award if you did not receive one. Please note, though, only children who complete the mile receive a medal, the other distances receive ribbons.

We didn't register ahead of time —is there any way for my child can run?

There is no race-day registration. We would love to have your child run next year, join us in 2010.

Will there be photos available?

Photos are being taken by Brightroom photography. Emails will be automatically sent when pictures are available.  Alternatively, there is a link to the Brightroom website on the Halloween Young Run website.

How long has this race been going on?

This is the 21st year!

Who benefits from this race?

Proceeds from this race go to support the Rockville Youth Recreation Fund and the children's running programs of the Montgomery County Road Runners Club. Again this year, we have selected Sports Plus, Special Needs Program, as the local children's charity to which families can make a tax-deductible donation. They help children with special needs participate in main-stream sporting events.
